Hello,

The Manley Popcorn building was converted to seven lofts around 1999 and I own one. My address is 1920 Wyandotte and I have lived here for seven years. I just thought I would post and answer any questions anyone might have.

The building was originally built in 1924 as Berkowitz Printing and this name is still discernible on the north side of the building. Berkowitz later became Tension Envelope, which still exists and is located in a much larger building just a few blocks east of here. Otis Elevator also occupied our building for a while. Manley was still in business up until the building was converted. I used to see Mr. Manley walk to lunch at the nearby Town Topic Hamburgers from time to time in the Nineties. I don't know what became of him.

Manley Inc. bought 1920 Wyandotte late in WWII, and moved their offices (and mailing address) from 1906 Wyandotte to 1920 Wyandotte after WWII. At one point in time they owned 1900 -1920 Wyandotte. They sold them between 1995 and 1997.

Mr Manley (Charles G Manley) pasted away in 2006. Interesting story on him walking to Town Topic Hamburgers.

Love that they refer to the building as the Popcorn Lofts.

The "Manley Inc. The Biggest Name in Popcorn" appears to really be fading away. The business hours sign is great! I have not seen anything about it being Warehouse #4. Makes me wonder where the other warehouses were located.

We (the condo society) are thinking about having the sign repainted.

...The big sign up high, that is.

I like "ghost" signs, and generally suggest that they aren't repainted. But, this one has faded so much that I would vote for repainting.
